Legendary Lineup: "1999" Mixtape Drops as Part of the Reversion Series
July 12, 2024
In an era where ownership of music rights is paramount, we are thrilled to announce the release of the latest mixtape in the Reversion Series: "1999". This powerful compilation features an all-star lineup including Dr. Dre, Mos Def, Mobb Deep, DMX, Ja Rule, Eminem, Missy Elliot, Method Man & Redman, Eve, Snoop Dogg, and many more.
"1999" is not just a mixtape; it is a call to action. We aim to alert eligible artists about the importance of sending terminations to reclaim their rights. Ownership of intellectual property is a critical step toward establishing generational wealth, and we are honored to support these legendary artists who have provided us with timeless memories.
Under 17 USC 203, authors have the right to terminate the transfer of their works 35 years after the grant was executed, allowing them to regain ownership. The Class of 1999 is the latest group of artists eligible to send a notice of termination, effectively putting third parties on notice.
While efforts are underway in Congress to address the inequality with respect to current streaming payouts, our organization continues to advocate for a shorter term regarding the time copyrights can revert back to the authors. We believe that at the rate music is consumed in the digital age, 35 or 56 years does not accurately reflect the time it takes to determine the fair market value of an author's intellectual property with respect to the return on investment.
Understanding the uncharted territories that lie ahead, we are more than thrilled as we discover how to utilize technology to revolutionize the music industry. With this playlist and those to follow in the Respect Music series, we look forward to achieving the level of awareness that impacts both artists and fans, especially the heirs of the music creators who've helped to create the soundtrack to our lives."
The release of "1999" is part of our ongoing Respect Music campaign, dedicated to advocating for fairer legislation and raising awareness among artists and fans alike. By championing the reversion right, we hope to empower artists to regain control over their work, ensuring that their legacy and contribution to the music industry are rightfully recognized and valued.
Join us in celebrating this incredible mixtape and supporting the movement for music ownership. Listen to "1999" today and be part of the change.
